*ἐλπίς: derived from the Greek noun ἐλπίς (elpis), meaning "hope" or "expectation." In the New Testament, "elpizó" conveys the sense of having a confident expectation or trust in something or someone. It is often used in the context of a believer's hope in God and His promises. This hope is not a mere wishful thinking but a firm assurance based on faith.
